CairoKee’s latest music video ‘Ya El Medan’ has hit a cord with me and with many Egyptians as it quickly became a viral video on YouTube and the social networks. The lyrics of the song describes our persistence in continuing the revolution until we reach our Jan25 goals: Freedom, Dignity and Social Justice.
I want your help in translating the lyrics of this song into 20 languages in the next 7 days – midnight (Cairo local time) of Wednesday 7th December.
Why translate it?
Egypt’s revolution has become a symbol of peaceful protest against injustice and we should share our story to the world in as many languages possible.
Why 7 days?
I believe that there needs to be a deadline in order to get things done and I’m willing to commit the next 7 days to achieve this goal in order to make this video available to a world audience.
What do I want from you:

CairoKee ft. Aida El Ayouby – Hey Square
0:09-0:13 Hey. Hey Square (Tahrir Square).
0:13-0:17 Where have you been all this time?
0:17-0:21 With you we sang. And with you we labored.
0:21-0:25 We fought our fears. And we prayed.
0:26-0:30 All as one hand. Day and night.
0:30-0:34 And with you nothing is impossible.
0:34-0:39 The voice of freedom brings us together.
0:39-0:43 Finally our lives have a meaning.
0:43-0:48 There is no going back. Our voices are heard.
0:48-0:53 And the dream is not forbidden anymore.
0:53-0:56 Hey. Hey Square.
0:56-1:01 Where have you been all this time?
1:01-1:05 You brought down the wall. You lit the light.
1:05-1:10 You gathered around you a broken people.
1:10-1:14 We were born anew.
1:14-1:18 And a persistent dream has been born.
1:18-1:23 We’ve disagreed with good intentions.
1:23-1:27 Sometimes things weren’t clear.
1:27-1:31 We’ll protect our country and our children’s children.
1:31-1:36 We’ll protect the rights of the lost lives of our youth.
1:36 – 1:40 Hey. Hey Square.
1:40 – 1:44 Where have you been all this time?
1:44 – 1:49 With you we felt and started
1:49 – 1:53 After we had been far and had come to the end.
1:53 – 1:57 We have to change ourselves with our hands.
1:57 – 2:02 You gave us a lot and the rest is up to us.
2:02 – 2:06 Sometime I worry that you’ll become a memory.
2:06 – 2:11 That you’ll become distant from us and the idea will die.
2:11 – 2:15 And we’ll go back and forget what happened.
2:15 – 2:20 And tell stories about you in our tales.
2:20 – 2:24 Hey. Hey Square.
2:24 – 2:28 Where have you been all this time?
2:28 – 2:33 The Square is full. With all kinds.
2:33 – 2:37 The reckless one. And the courageous.
2:37 – 2:41 There is the passionate one. And the one who are on a ride.
2:41 – 2:46 The loud one. The quiet one.
2:46 – 2:50 We get together. Drink tea.
2:50 – 2:54 We now know how to get our rights.
2:54 – 2:59 You let the world hear us.
2:59 – 3:04 And you let the neighbors get together.
3:04 – 3:08 Hey. Hey Square.
3:08 – 3:12 Where have you been all this time?
3:12 – 3:16 Our idea is our strength.
3:16 – 3:21 Our weapon is our unity.
3:21 – 3:25 The square says the truth.
3:25 – 3:29 It always says no the oppressor.
3:29 – 3:33 The square is like a wave.
3:33 – 3:38 There are people riding it. Others are pulled in by it.
3:38 – 3:42 People outside of it calling it chaotic.
3:42 – 3:47 And what has been done is now written.
3:47 – 3:51 Hey. Hey Square.
3:51 – 3:55 Where have you been all this time?
