They came first for the Muslim Brotherhood,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t one of them.
Then they came for the labour unions,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t one of them.
Then they came for the activists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t one of them.
Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up…
Inspired by the famous statement attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). I wrote this mod before Egypt’s Jan25 revolution but it is still important to me as Egypt post-revolution has not changed, especially in freedom of expression of people and how the media still supports the people in power.
My focus is to share and examine how citizen media (or what I like calling people-powered media) is being used by Egyptians, and how citizen media can make positive change in the community.
This website is a prototype of an ambitious plan I have of creating a Google News for citizen media produced in Egypt. Currently the blog features blog posts, video blogs and initiatives by a small group of people. I’m currently exploring how to create a sustainable ecosystem that encourages people powered media and rewards both the blogger and reader.
I always welcome all comments/feedback/criticism regarding my blog.
